Crowns & Bridges

What is a crown?

Crowns are permanent ‘caps’ that are custom-made teeth for the perfect fit. Made of ceramic for front teeth and porcelain for molars. The newer ceramic crowns are strong enough to be used in all areas of the mouth and blend seamlessly in with your natural teeth without causing the unsightly black lines around the margin of the crown.

What is a Bridge?

A bridge is a dental implant with a natural-look used to fill gaps created by missing teeth. They can prevent common problems associated with missing teeth like a bite misalignment, tilting teeth or sagging facial muscles. On an average bridges may last for ten years or longer.

How are Bridges Fitted?

The bridges are attached to the natural teeth on either side of the gap and these natural teeth are prepared for crowns to fit on top. The crowns and bridge in the center are permanently attached to create a natural looking and functional replacement for the missing teeth.

A Dental Bridge or Crown procedure is efficient and consists of the following:

Dental Bridge Procedure

Dental Bridge Procedure

The dental bridge procedure is a streamlined process comprising the following steps:

  • Our dentist conducts a comprehensive oral examination and addresses any tooth decay issues. X-rays may be taken to assess your teeth and mouth.
  • To prepare for the dental bridge, our dentist readies the two adjacent teeth on either side of the gap and creates a mold for the bridge.
  • While awaiting the fabrication of your permanent bridge, you may receive a temporary one. The temporary bridge will be replaced once the permanent bridge is ready for placement.
  • When the permanent bridge is prepared, it is affixed in position and securely bonded to the neighboring teeth on both sides using dental cement. If suitable for your case, a dental implant may also be utilized to anchor the bridge.

Dental Crown Procedure

Initially, an X-ray may be conducted to assess the overall condition of the tooth. Subsequently, your dentist will apply a local anesthetic and reshape the tooth to accommodate the forthcoming crown. An impression of your tooth is then crafted using a putty-like substance, ensuring the crown is custom-tailored to fit seamlessly.

The fabrication of the crown typically takes one to two weeks, necessitating the placement of a temporary crown by our dentist. During the second appointment, the temporary crown is removed, and the new crown is securely cemented in position.
